Maybe it's a warmer title than "Sponsor Relations". What do you think?
In any case, we need to make sure that we have a complete list of our sponsors and all of their contact information. We need specific names attached to direct phone numbers and email addresses, as well as central corporate numbers and addresses. This will be handy for this season, but more importantly, many seasons to come. We need to appoint someone to keep this database. I'll do it, unless someone else wants to step up to the plate.
How are we going to keep sponsors on our side?
We need to engage sponsors as individuals, showing them step-by-step how their contribution has helped the team. Each sponsor needs a custom media kit with high-resolution photography of their logo on the car and their product in use. They need hand-written thank-you cards, and hand-written invitations to our exhibitions, practice days, and lectures.
We also need to engage sponsors as a whole. By continuing to publish Up to the Mile, sponsors will be informed of team developments as they happen.
I've talked to so many people on other teams that have lost major sponsorship dollars because they simply took the money and ran. When you introduce a genuine and personal element to the relationship, you're almost assured future assistance. Some of the FSAE veterans can attest to that.
